Framework for Teaching  School Nurses

Evaluating school nurses with the Danielson Framework

A school nurse manages medication administration, care plans for chronic conditions, immunization compliance, emergency response, health screening and communication with families and providers. It is skilled professional work, and none of it is a lesson.

Most districts still evaluate nurses on a teaching rubric because it is the only one their system offers.

What we provide

A nurse-specific rubric on the same four-domain structure, in both the 2013 and 2022 editions.

  • Components describe health services delivery, record keeping and professional communication
  • Evidence can come from care documentation and observed practice rather than classroom visits
  • Nurses complete self assessments against their own rubric
  • Results roll into the same district reporting as every other role

The rubric derives from Danielson consulting work published by state education agencies. The 2022 edition is our own. See whether this fits your district → Back to all roles
